• "Five Things Successful Students Do": Even in our frenetic world of social media, young people still want to be significant, cared about and secure. When adults deliver consistently growth-oriented messages, students will develop the grit needed to forge ahead in their dreams. At 7 p.m. Oct. 1, Patrick Donohue will discuss the five key messages that can build school success, unlock the potential in young people and help parents develop relationships with their children that are positive and full of energy. Donohue is director of a coaching practice and a former high school educator and staff developer.

• The FAFSA Completion Assistance Workshop will begin at 6 p.m. Oct. 1 in Glenbard North's computer lab. Participants will receive one-on-one assistance from financial aid specialists at the Illinois Assistance Corps to file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form online. Please bring the following necessary documentation: 2017 federal tax returns, 2017 W2 forms and record of untaxed income and investment/asset/business value. Assistance will be available in Spanish and English.

• The Challenge of College Costs will be presented by Sara Espinosa in Spanish at 6 p.m. Oct. 1 in Glenbard North's library. Espinosa is an outreach program coordinator at the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC). Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to attend and learn about the financial aid process from start to finish and programs available at the federal and state levels.

Continuing professional development units are available.
