Palatine Township, Lions co-host electronics recycling

Palatine Township and the Palatine Lions Club will again be co-hosting an Electronics Recycling Event from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Palatine Township Center, 721 S. Quentin Road in Palatine.

This free service is available to all township residents, and no appointment is necessary.

"Providing opportunities to properly recycle electronics is an important and valuable offering for our residents, and the Palatine Lions Club has been a strong partner in assisting the township to provide this service over the last several years," said Sharon Langlotz-Johnson.

The electronics recycling event will be held in the Palatine Township Center parking lot, 721 S. Quentin Road in Palatine. Motorists must enter from westbound Illinois Street, just east of Quentin Road.

Vehicles dropping off items are to stay to the right side of Illinois Street, so as not to obstruct general traffic before entering the township parking lot.

• A variety of items will be accepted free, which include: computers, cellphones, power cords and cables, computer mice, printers, CD, DVD and VCR players, DVRs, small electrical appliances, flat screen monitors and flat screen TVs (only), as well as car, marine, power tool and residential batteries. There will be a $25 charge per microwave to recycle.

• Special Lions Club items that will also be accepted include cellphones, eyeglasses, hearing aids, inkjet cartridges and keys.

• Items that will not be accepted include: tube TVs, CRTs, dehumidifiers, light bulbs, white goods (washing machines or dryers), paint, or hazardous materials.

There is no limit on the quantity of items residents can drop off at the township during the Electronics Recycling Event.
