College of DuPage to commemorate Constitution Day 2018 Sept. 20

In observance of Constitution Day, College of DuPage will host "The United States Constitution and Immigration: A Nation of Immigrants?" from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in the William J. Bauer Mock Courtroom located in the Homeland Security Education Center at COD's Glen Ellyn Campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

During the event, Immigration Attorneys Elizabeth McGuan, Neil Levine and Rocio Becerril will discuss the current administration's travel ban and its relationship to the Constitution.

In addition, COD Paralegal students Melanie Corpe, Inez Karlsson and Karin Mandigo will discuss their insights about their personal immigration experiences.

COD Art Professor Jennifer Hereth will display her original expressionist work in the Homeland Security Education Center lobby in observance of current immigration issues.

In addition, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the COD Library atrium, participants can examine the text of the Constitution and rewrite its words by hand.

Handwriting the Constitution is a nation-wide project that encourages studying and reflecting on the supreme law of the United States through writing. Participants can share their handwritten examples with a global audience by posting online using the hashtag #handwritingtheconstitution.
