Launching Emotionally Healthy Young Adults Panel Oct. 1st

Parenting young adults in our stressful world is challenging. Report cards and test scores assess academic preparation. How do we gauge young peoples' mental and emotional readiness for greater independence?

In today's world, good mental health is one of the most important foundational skills for academic success and success in life. One in five young adults experience a mental health condition such as anxiety or depression. As parents we want our young adults to succeed, but we may not recognize the warning signs suggesting a mental health condition. We may not know what's "normal" teen behavior vs a concern. Then, if there is a concern, how do we have that really tough conversation about mental health? What support is available through the educational system? Additionally it can be difficult to know how to best help our young adult with a mental health challenge as they transition from school, college and into life.

Join NAMI Barrington Area on Monday, October 1st from 7:00 - 8:30pm at the Barrington Area Library, 505 N. Northwest Highway in Barrington to learn from a panel of local experts who will address these concerns and more.

The panel features Dr. Eric Nolan, Adolescent Psychiatrist; Beth Jones, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, District 220; Peggy Kubert, LCSW, Director of Education and Programming, Erika's Lighthouse; Debbie Reuter, Accessibility Outreach Specialist, Harper College; and Neha Koul who will offer a perspective of hope.
