Great teachers give more than grades, they lend a helping hand

Highwood | Oak Terrace Elementary School students gave teachers an A-plus on their fundraising efforts to support local education and school celebrations.

Over thirty teachers from Oak Terrace Elementary School volunteered on Thursday, February 7, at the newly-remodeled Highwood McDonald's located on Sheridan Road, where they served students and their families in a fundraiser for Oak Terrace.

Mrs. Amy Cengel, Principal, Oak Terrace Elementary School was at the event the entire night talking with the families and working in the dining room. Teachers Victoria Dobie and Tommy Iverson wore the apple pie costume during the night. Teachers Sylvie Kojan and Carter Taylor sold the pies the entire night and did a fabulous job raising funds for the Oak Terrace PTO.

Leslye Whittman, PTO Vice President, did a great job working hard throughout the night and coordinating the entire event with McDonald's. The proceeds from the sale of 240 pies went directly to benefit the students for special assemblies and classroom supplies requested by the teachers. Twenty percent of the proceeds from the McTeacher's Night sales were donated directly to the Oak Terrace PTO.

Chris Prucnal, Owner - Operator of the Highwood McDonald's, and his outstanding crew were delighted to participate in the worthy cause for education and the community.

"McTeacher's Night is part of McDonald's larger commitment to education and other important initiatives supporting families and the local community," Prucnal said.

"We are proud to serve the families of the Oak Terrace community through the McTeacher's Night event. In addition to helping provide financial support for our local schools, we help students feel connected to their school, their teachers and their sense of community."

Prucnal donated a case of apple pies to the school for sale at the event. Inspired by the success of McTeacher's Night, Chris Prucnal has set his sights on partnering with other schools in the Highwood area.
