ECC to celebrate dental assisting program's 50th anniversary Sept. 23

On Sunday, Sept. 23, Elgin Community College will be celebrating the dental assisting program's 50th anniversary from 1 to 3 p.m.

ECC students, faculty, alumni and members of the community are invited to the commemorative event that will take place in the Building A Atrium, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Registration is $10 per attendee, with proceeds funding dental assisting education at ECC.

The program will begin promptly at 1:30 p.m. with remarks from ECC's administration and faculty, current and past members of the program advisory committee, and an alumna.

The anniversary celebration will be a good opportunity for alumni to reconnect. Light refreshments will be served, a historical program video will be shown, alumni photos will be on display and self-guided tours of the dental assisting clinic and laboratory will be encouraged.

"As an alumna of the ECC dental assisting program and now the program's director, I am very excited to be celebrating 50 years of dental assisting education at ECC," said Kim Plate, BS, CDA, CPFDA, CRFDA, director of the dental assisting program. "Dental assisting as a profession has evolved over the past five decades and is continuing to do so. As the only program in Northern Illinois accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), our program will be even more relevant going into the future."

Kindly register online by Wednesday, Sept. 12 at elgin.edu/Dental50 or call the ECC Foundation at (847) 214-7377.

Sponsorship opportunities are available.

If you are unable to attend but would like to make a gift to support current and future dental assisting students in honor of the 50th anniversary, visit elgin.edu/Give or contact the ECC Foundation at (847) 214-7377.
