Algonquin Area Library invites community to renovation celebration

The Algonquin Area Public Library District invites the community to celebrate the completion of its construction/renovation project from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at both library locations.

Enjoy activities for all ages, light refreshments, and entertainment at the Harnish Main Library and the Eastgate Branch Library.

Attendees will receive a colorful logo book bag to personalize at the event; one per household, while supplies last. Library staff will be on hand to provide guided tours of all new spaces, as well as a look at what goes on behind the scenes.

At the Harnish Main Library, attendees can work on a craft project in the new makerspace; explore resources, programs, and games in the dedicated computer labs; and learn about all the cool stuff in the teen space.

Kids also can attend story times with community helpers every hour beginning at 10:30 a.m. and participate in craft projects and technology demos in the new Creation Center at 10, 11:30 a.m., 1:30 and 3 p.m.

Residents who haven't visited the Eastgate Branch in a while are in for a real treat.

Everyone is invited to explore the colorful renovation of the branch, complete with dedicated computer lab, where they can try out games, resources, and software available to cardholders.

Light refreshments will be provided and live entertainment will be featured throughout the day.

"Nearly three years ago, the library board and management decided to move forward with this construction/renovation project in response to community needs and patron requests," said Executive Director Sara Murray.

"We're celebrating the completion of this project, but we're also saying 'thank you' to our patrons for their patience and flexibility as we worked to upgrade our buildings and services."

Murray, board President Katrina McGuire, and several library trustees will be leading ribbon-cutting ceremonies at 11 a.m. at the Harnish Main Library, 2600 Harnish Drive, and noon at the Eastgate Branch Library, 115 Eastgate Drive.

Everyone receives a passport at the door. Attendees who receive the required punches on their passport will receive a free treat coupon. All are welcome to join the celebration of the library district's new and improved spaces.

The Algonquin Area Public Library District has more than 23,000 cardholders and serves more than 40,000 residents in a 30-square-mile area, including portions of Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, Cary and Barrington Hills.
