Schaumburg Christian School Volleyball Team Bakes for Families in Need

On Saturday, September 1, 2018, the volleyball team from Schaumburg Christian School set aside their weekend plans to make an impact in the community. The team's theme word for the season is UNITE, an effort to embrace differences, utilize gifts, and put others first.

The team's coach, Katie VanderKooi, was hospitalized for a spinal fusion during her senior year of high school, and her parents were able to stay with her because of the Ronald McDonald House Charities. This non-profit organization hosts families with hospitalized children, and it survives on volunteers and donations.

This holiday weekend the girls brought ingredients and energy to the RMHC as they baked cookies and other sweets for the residents. Holidays generate a smaller amount of volunteers, so the RMHC workers were especially grateful for the girls' help. Families came back after a long day at the hospital and were greeted with fresh treats to help them feel a little more at home during these difficult times in their lives.
