Palatine Park District to Offer Recreational Programming at New Harper College Health & Recreation Center

Through an intergovernmental agreement signed in 2016, Harper College and Palatine Park District have entered into a partnership to provide recreational programming in the newly renovated Health and Recreation Center located in Building M on the Harper College Campus which opened on Aug. 20.

The indoor pool at Harper College was completely renovated as one component of this project. The new Aquatics Center at the Health and Recreation Center is a six-lane indoor pool with deep end and has ADA access with two pool lifts. The water temperature of the pool will be kept at 80-81 degrees. A wide variety of aquatic programming will be offered in the pool including parent and tot, preschool, youth, adult, masters, semi-private, and private swim lessons. Water aerobic classes will be offered Monday through Thursday and on Saturday. Additional programs include Try Scuba and an American Red Cross Blended Learning Lifeguarding Course.

Annual indoor pool passes are available for purchase as well as daily single use passes for those interested in trying the facility. Open swim and lap swim times are offered throughout the week; the complete schedule can be viewed at hrc.palatineparks.org. Indoor pool rentals and birthday pool parties can also be booked in the aquatics center. For more information, contact Anthony DeMichael, Aquatics Coordinator, at (847) 925-6000, ext. 2764 or ademichael@palatineparks.org.

Employment opportunities are available in the indoor pool, including lifeguards, swim lesson instructors, and locker room attendants. Visit hrc.palatineparks.org for details and online application. The pool will also be home to Palatine Tiger Sharks Swim Team and Harper College Hawks Water Polo team. In addition, academic programming will be offered in the aquatics area by Harper College.

Information and online registration for all recreational aquatic programs can be found at hrc.palatineparks.org.

Fitness classes will include Turbokick, Rise & Sweat, Tabata, Cycling, Rin N Ride, Tai Chi, Mat Pilates, Piyo, Gentle Yoga, and Yoga for Athletes. A complete schedule of classes along with registration information can be found by visiting hrc.paltineparks.org.
