Seventh annual Jazz Weekend to feature 27 live jazz performances

On Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 6-9, the Downtown St. Charles Partnership will host the seventh annual St. Charles Jazz Weekend, featuring live jazz music with 33 different performances set between 14 different venues for brunch, dinner and late night entertainment in downtown St. Charles.

This year's venues include: Eden on the River, 1 Illinois St.; The Wine Exchange, 1 Illinois St., Unit 120; Francesca's on the River, 200 S. Second St.; ROX City Grill, 100 W. Main St.; The Finery & Blacksmith Bar, 305 W. Main St.; Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, 307 Cedar Ave.; The Filling Station Pub & Grill, 300 W. Main St.; The House Pub, 16 S. Riverside Drive; McNally's Irish Pub, 109 W. Main St.; First Street Plaza, off First Street; Vintage 53 Wine Bar, 162 S. First St.; Club Arcada, 105 E. Main St.; Mount St. Mary's Park, off Route 31; and The Office Dining & Spirits, 201 E. Main St.

The venues will host many performances from jazz soloists to quintets that cover a range of jazz styles complementary for their in-house guests.

Three-time Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Frank Catalano will headline at The Filling Station Pub & Grill on Thursday evening, on the First Street Plaza on Saturday afternoon and at The House Pub on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Jenna Sawicki, executive director of the Downtown St. Charles Partnership, is excited for this year's lineup, and pleased to feature John Wojciechowski and Dana Hall, along with Grammy Award winning artist Frank Catalano.

"Not only do we have some new venues this year, including Francesca's on the River, The Wine Exchange and Eden on the River, we are pleased to continue partnering with businesses like ROX City Grill, McNally's Traditional Irish Pub, The Office and The House Pub," she said.

The Jazz Weekend lineup is as follows, with all performances and venues subject to change.

On Thursday, Sept. 6, Frank Catalano will perform at 6 p.m. at the Filling Station Pub & Grill; Jack Macklin Trio at 6 p.m. at the Wine Exchange; Neal Alger Jazz Trio at 7 p.m. at Eden on the River; Angel Wyatt & Erin McDougald at 8 p.m. at Vintage 53; Tom Linsk at 8:30 p.m. at Rox City Grill; and Joel Baer at 9 p.m. The House Pub.

On Friday, Sept. 7, Jack Macklin & Alex Murphy Quartet will perform at 6 p.m. at the Filling Station; Fantasy Master's Smooth Jazz Group at 6:30 p.m. at the Wine Exchange; Riley Elmore at 8 p.m. at Vintage 53; Ruben Alvarez Quartet at 8 p.m. at Eden on the River; Dean Simms and the Hot Notes at 8:30 p.m. at Club Arcada; Johnny Burnett at 8:30 p.m. at Rox City Grill; and Frank Catalano at 9 p.m. at the House Pub.

On Saturday, Sept. 8, the afternoon will feature three performances at First Street Plaza: the DePaul University Student Jazz Ensemble at 1:30 p.m., Dana Hall's Spring at 3 p.m., and Frank Catalano at 4:30 p.m. The Joel Reams Jazz Group will perform at 6 p.m. at the Filling Station Pub & Grill; Alex Murphy Trio at 6:30 p.m. at the Wine Exchange; Jack Macklin Trio at 7 p.m. at McNally's Irish Pub; Le Percolateur at 8 p.m. at Vintage 53; Bill Boris Jazz trio at 8 p.m. at Eden on the River; Dean Simms and the Hot Notes at 8:30 p.m. at Club Arcada; Peter Miletic at 8:30 p.m. at Rox City Grill; and Frank Catalano at 9 p.m. at the House Pub.

On Sunday, Sept. 9, enjoy two musical performances at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church with the Alex Murphy Trio at 9 a.m. and the Kingdom of Groove at 10:30 a.m. The Shout Section Big Band Jazz Ensemble will perform at 2 p.m. at First Street Plaza, Andy Schlinder at 3 p.m. at The Office, An Evening of Random Acts at 3 p.m. at Mount St. Mary's Park; Dakota Trio at 4:30 p.m. at Club Arcada; Frank Catalano at 5:30 p.m. at the Finery & Blacksmith Bar; and Jack Macklin at 6 p.m. at Francesca's by the River.
