Free panel tackles issues at heart of governor's race

District 214 Community Education in September will host political journalists, professors and other experts in a conversational analysis of the issues at the heart of the 2018 Illinois gubernatorial race.

The free event, Decision 2018: A Gubernatorial Conversation, will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, September 13 in the theater of the Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road in Arlington Heights. The panel, which will include ample time for submitted audience questions, is part of a continued effort to engage the community on topics of importance locally and beyond.

Confirmed panelists include Jaime Dominguez, lecturer in the Department of Political Science at Northwestern University; John Lampinen, Daily Herald editor and senior vice president; Charlie Meyerson, publisher of Chicago Public Square and a veteran radio, internet and TV journalist and former WXRT Chicago City Hall reporter; and Alton Miller, an associate professor of communications at Columbia College with a strong background in journalism and politics.

Zach Crandall, a Buffalo Grove High School social studies teacher, will moderate the conversation.

The nonpartisan conversation will cover key topics of importance to local voters, what the race means to the northwest suburbs, and how the outcome of state elections affects local residents.

Attendees will be able to submit questions for consideration at the event.

The conversation is free and open to the public, but registration is encouraged.
