Annual Fishing Derby reels in family fun

Bait your friends and family with a morning of fishing fun at the Happy Trails Fishing Derby, a free event hosted in Jaycee Park, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15.

All ages are invited to start the day at the park shelter learning about fishing etiquette. New anglers receive a quick fishing lesson. Then, it's off to the pond to see what you can catch, and release.

Participants must be willing to touch worms or come with a partner who will.

Fishing poles, tackle and bait are provided or you can bring your own. Anyone older than age 16 must have a current Illinois Fishing License.

Raffle prizes, goody bags and information on fishing are also included.

Preregistration is recommended, but walk-ins at the event are welcome. This event will be held rain or shine.

For more information, contact the Cary Park District at (847) 639-6100 or visit www.carypark.com to register.
