YMCA Camp Edwards opens new Seigle Welcome Center and Health Lodge

YMCA Camp Edwards, a branch of the Golden Corridor Family YMCA, hosted the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the new Seigle Welcome Center and Camp Health Lodge Aug. 28 in East Troy, Wisconsin.

A great addition to YMCA Camp Edwards, the Seigle Welcome Center and Camp Health Lodge was made possible by generous contributions from the Seigle Family Foundation and other donors.

The new Seigle Welcome Center includes a reception area for those visiting camp, along with staff offices, a conference room, and registration area.

The Health Lodge includes a five-bed clinic, nurse's quarters, and a triage area.

The Seigle Welcome Center is the second building to be built as part of a five-year capital expansion effort at Camp Edwards to increase logistical capacity with the goal of increasing camper capacity by 40 percent.

The camp recently completed the Cooper (Hoffer) Recreation Center last year which was the first four-season recreational facility at Camp Edwards.

Camp Edwards began operation in 1929 and is currently one of three branches of the Golden Corridor Family YMCA, along with the Taylor YMCA (Elgin) and Campanelli YMCA (Schaumburg).

The Seigle Family Foundation is managed by Harry Seigle (Susan) and Mark Seigle (Robin). Harry Seigle is principal of The Elgin Company in Chicago, and Mark Seigle is president of Seigle' s Cabinet Center in Elgin. The YMCA is deeply indebted to the generosity of Harry and Mark Seigle and the Family Foundation.

Other donors include: The Randall Baker Family, Barbara and Dick Galitz Family, Dr. and Mrs. Barry Burren, The Lee Family Foundation, Richard Rayner, Jr., Frank and Brooke Transue, and the Ziegler and Schmitendorf families.

Total funds raised for the YMCA Camp Edwards capital campaign exceeds $2.8 million with fundraising continuing to complete a third facility, a new shower and restroom facility, estimated at $900,000.

Camp Edwards serves approximately 1,260 youth in summer resident camp, plus 160 in day camp.

In addition, Camp Edwards serves 4,500 youth in environmental education, 3,800 in various groups, and 500 family campers annually.
