Glenbard Parent Series presents 'Support for Students on the Autism Spectrum' Sept. 11

The Glenbard Parent Series Navigating Healthy Families will present "First Class Support for Students on the Autism Spectrum" with Michael Duggan at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Glenbard South High School, 23W200 Butterfield Road in Glen Ellyn.

College students with autism can face many difficulties in adult life that can be overlooked as they strive for academic success.

This presentation shows how educators and parents/guardians can best support students with autism in their everyday life, taking into consideration relationships, mental health and independent living skills.

Duggan is a professor and counselor for students with disabilities at the College of DuPage, where he helped establish Project COACH, a vocational skills training program for students with developmental disabilities; Autismerica, a social/support group for students on the autism spectrum; and a chapter of Best Buddies for student-to-student mentoring. Duggan's experience, wisdom and passion for working with high school students on the autism spectrum is invaluable to educators and parents/guardians alike.

Continuing professional development units are available.

The Glenbard Parent Series is generously sponsored by the Cebrin Goodman Center, Cooperative Association for Special Education (CASE), College of DuPage, DuPage Medical Group, Emmy Gaffey Foundation, Glenbard Early Childhood Collaborative, Holiday Inn/Carol Stream, Prevention Leadership Team of the DuPage County Health Department and Trust Company of Illinois.
