Fox Valley Theatre Company presents 'High School Musical'

Based on the popular movie of the same name, this full-scale production of Disney's "High School Musical" breathes fresh air into the decade-old story about athletes, intellectuals, cheerleaders, skateboarders, and theater-lovers trying to break the stereotypes and blur the lines that often define cliques in high school.

Fox Valley Theatre Company became an addition to the younger Children's Theatre of Elgin troupe in 1993 as a more advanced option for young people ages 14 to 20. This show marks the 25th annual production for the company as the actors tell the story through dance, song, and dialogue.

Audiences of all ages will delight at the upbeat numbers such as "We're All in This Together" and "Stick to the Status Quo," as the modern-day tale of Romeo and Juliet unfolds - minus the tragic ending.

Catie Early, show director and CTE/FVTC alumna, said, "Working on 'High School Musical' with this incredible group of students has been a wonderful experience. The cast brings such energy and positivity to every rehearsal.

"They've really bonded, and it's so great to watch them work together, help each other out, and boost each other up," Early said. "I can't wait to introduce the audience to our version of East High. I know they're going to love it."

Disney's "High School Musical" performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Sept. 7-15, and 2 p.m. Sundays, Sept. 9 and 16, at the Elgin Community College Blizzard Theatre, 1700 Spartan Drive Building H, Elgin.

Tickets are $12 or $10 for students and seniors. To purchase tickets, visit elgin.edu or call (847) 622-0300.
