Clean Cities to host clean-air golf outing, clean-vehicle seminar highlighting connected vehicles
The Chicago Area Clean Cities Coalition will host its 18th annual Clean Air Golf Outing on Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Maple Meadows Golf Club, 272 S. Addison Road, Wood Dale.
The day will kick off with a free Clean Vehicles Seminar on how to "Reduce Vehicle Emissions via Telematics and Connected Vehicles," followed by an afternoon of golf and dinner.
Speakers from the following companies will discuss the advantages of telematics:

• Spireon
• MapAnything
• OnStar Corporation, a subsidiary of General Motors
"Telematics and connected vehicles are a hot topic with fleets and for good reason," said John Walton, chairman of Chicago Area Clean Cities. "As they say, 'If you can't measure it, you can't improve it.' By using a telematics system on your vehicles, you can save fuel and time, and reduce your environmental footprint while improving the fleets' productivity. The right system helps you to cut costs.
"We'll have experts available at the seminar and golf outing who will teach you to use telematics to more effectively manage your fleet," Walton said. "We've been hosting our golf outing for nearly 20 years, and we have people join us from throughout the Chicago area who are experts at technological solutions that help fleets realize a fast return on investment, while also improving air quality and saving fuel."
Chicago Area Clean Cities is a voluntary coalition whose mission over the last 24 years has been to support local actions to improve the environmental performance and efficiency in the transportation sector in the six-county Chicago metro area. Its membership is comprised of federal, state and local governments, commercial fleets, auto manufacturers, dealerships, environmental organizations, corporations, small businesses, and individuals. These stakeholders come together to share information and resources, educate the public, help craft public policy, and collaborate on projects that reduce petroleum use.
In 2018, Chicago Area Clean Cities Coalition member fleets displaced 20 million gasoline-gallon equivalents (GGEs) of petroleum and reduced greenhouse-gas emissions by 178,000 metric tons.

Chicago Area Clean Cities is a nonprofit coalition focused on promoting clean transportation in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. CACC is one of more than 90 coalitions across the country that are affiliated with the U.S. Department of Energy's Clean Cities program, which brings together stakeholders to increase the use of alternative fuel and advanced-vehicle technologies, reduce idling, and improve fuel economy and air quality.
