'You're Not Alone' walk Sept. 29 to benefit local families
On Saturday, Sept. 29, hundreds of walkers will meet at 9:30 a.m. at Fountain View Pavilion on Huntley's Del Webb Boulevard.
They will participate in the 16th annual "You're Not Alone" Walk for Cancer sponsored by Sun City's Breast Cancer Support Group. The route options include one mile or 5K, and all proceeds benefit local cancer patients and families.
"Last year, we were fortunate to increase our proceeds by about 34 percent to over $7,500 due in part to the support of new sponsors," said Andrea Berebitsky, walk chair.
One new sponsor is Kinetic Physical Therapy at 11920 Oak Creek Parkway in Huntley (Kineticpts.com).
"I asked Emilie, my physical therapist, last year if she would become a sponsor for $250, and she agreed," said Ingrid Kiss, a member of the group. "It's so nice that they are repeating this year."
"A friend recommended Kinetic Physical Therapy to me 10 years ago, and I've been visiting them on and off for much of that time. The practice is small, so the office is peaceful; almost like home," Kiss said. "Everyone is friendly, cheerful and caring. They have helped me with arthritis in the neck, a hip replacement, spinal stenosis and tendonitis; so, my care has been from head to toe. I've never thought of going to another place."
Mike and Emilie Ulmer, co-owners of Kinetic Physical Therapy, met in school in the Netherlands, then married and settled in Huntley. Mike said, "We are pleased to sponsor this effort because it matches what we try to do: promote exercise while serving and encouraging people through recovery at difficult times in their lives."
Walk proceeds provide materials for caps, shawls and quilts for cancer patients and gas for hospital visits, parking fees and food for families whose loved one is ill. Donations also cover medical supplies and treatments for those whose insurance does not cover all their needs.
This year's additional sponsors include Edward Jones/Sheldon Clark, First National Bank, Hair Cuttery, Huntley Floral, Huntley Realty, Huntley Veterinary Hospital, Living Stories.us, Lotus Spa Nails, St. Peter Lutheran Church of Gilberts and Thrivent Financial.

Advance registration forms are available at Prairie View Lodge Fitness Center, 12920 Del Webb Blvd. Cash or a check for $15 provides a T-shirt, water and after-walk donuts and cider from Goebbert's Pumpkin Patch. Day of walk registration is $20.
