Geneva upgrading security for online payments

Starting Wednesday, Aug. 22, Geneva utility bill payment customers will have to create a username and password to access their accounts online.

The change is part of security enhancements being made by the city to the utility bill payment portal, which will be down for maintenance Aug. 22.

Following the upgrade, customers will log in with their account and phone numbers as they have done in the past. Users will then be prompted to "activate your account" by completing an online form requesting them to create a username and password, which will be used to log in going forward.

Customers will receive an email from "eSuite," the city's online bill payment portal, asking them to activate their account to finish the verification process. If the link is not clicked, the account will not be accessible.

The city has provided step-by-step instructions walking customers through the account changes and verification process on its website at www.geneva.il.us.

Customers looking to pay their utility bill Aug. 22 when the online portal is down can call the city's Finance Division at (630) 232-0854 or visit the office at 15 S. First St. between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
