Schaumburg Engineering & Public Works Director to Retire August 17

Schaumburg's Director of Engineering & Public Works, David Lawry, P.E., will retire August 17 from the Village of Schaumburg.

Lawry was hired in Schaumburg in April 2014 and previously worked for Chastain & Associates, LLC, in the position of Director of Municipal Services. He also worked for the Village of Wauconda, City of Elgin, the Illinois Department of Transportation, and another private sector engineering firm, Sargent and Lundy Consultant Engineers.

During his time with the Village of Schaumburg, Lawry was responsible for overseeing the management of village-owned infrastructure systems, village-owned facilities and equipment, and public improvement programs.

He helped implement the pavement management program to assess the village's roadways, allocated additional funding for the street repair program and introduced a proactive pothole repair program. The village's new refuse and recycling carts were introduced under Lawry's tenure as well as the implementation of a performance contract for the village's LED streetlights in which more than 5,000 lights were installed in the village. He also oversaw several operation and management studies of Engineering & Public Works services to enhance efficiency and reintroduced the successful annual open house that occurs in May of every year.

"I want to thank Dave for his leadership and service to the Schaumburg community these past four years," Village Manager Brian Townsend said. "We wish him all the very best in his retirement."

Engineering & Public Works Assistant Director Mike Hall is serving as Interim Director for the village. For more information about the services and programs provided by the Engineering & Public Works Department, please visit the website at http://bit.ly/2p58iYP or dial 311 in the village.
