Enjoy Port Clinton Art Festival, Taste of Highland Park

The 35th Port Clinton Art Festival comes to the city center Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 25 and 26, with more than 300 artists coming together to showcase their work over the course of the weekend.

Alongside established artists, a youth art division will celebrate the talents of young artists ages 18 and younger, offering them the opportunity to participate, exhibit, and experience the inner workings of an art festival.

The event also includes live music featuring Cirrus Falcon, child-friendly activities, artist demonstrations, and booth chats for guests to learn more about the artists and their work.

The Taste of Highland Park and More, which runs Friday through Sunday, Aug. 24-26, offers guests an opportunity to sample food from a variety of Highland Park restaurants and neighboring communities.

Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. The Taste runs from 5-10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26. Port Clinton Square is at 600 Central Ave., Highland Park.

Children will enjoy fun art activities including art fest bingo, spin art, coloring and a graffiti wall. New this year is the Highland Park "Hands Together" Mural Project. Children and adults of all ages are invited to add their hand print to a community mural showing that Highland Park is a community of unique individuals that is stronger and more unified together.

Each participant will get an 8-by-8 inch square and a choice of paint colors to create a hand print.

The hand prints will become part of a mural, which will be displayed in the community. Painting can be messy, so those who plan to take part should dress accordingly. The Highland Park "Hands Together" project will take place from noon to 1 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Those wanting to be part of the art can step right into a famous painting and take a free selfie at the Amdur Productions ArtZipper booth, where a special green screen will be in place for attendees to put themselves into world-renowned pieces.

Attendees who are 18 and older are invited to take photos during the fest anytime between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Aug. 25 and 26 and submit them via email to FestPhotoChallenge@amdurproductions.com.

All photos must be taken during that time to be considered. The first-, second- and third-place winners will receive gift certificates to purchase art at ArtZipper.com. For details, visit tinyurl.com/y83qj2ur.
