Summer Place Theatre offers free ghost storytelling workshop Aug. 18

Individuals interested in sharpening their story-telling skills are invited to a free workshop with Summer Place Theatre's experienced storyteller Don Gingold from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, 305 W. Jackson Ave. in downtown Naperville.

The workshop is open to the first 10 registrants, including adults and students age 12 and up if accompanied by a parent.

To register or get more information, email Don Gingold at ghoststories@summerplacetheatre.org.

The two-hour class will cover proper story preparation, speaking, breathing, gesturing and microphone techniques.

No previous experience is required, but participants are encouraged to bring a prepared Halloween story or monologue two minutes in length or shorter that can be used to practice during the workshop.

Those who complete the workshop may be considered for a role as a storyteller in the Naperville Park District's annual "Ghost Stories in the Park … In the Dark" event, which will take place Oct. 5-7 at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion.
