Little Bear Ribfest serves up fun in Vernon Hills Aug. 17-18

Vernon Hills Park District's Eighth Annual Little Bear Ribfest will be held from 6-11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, and from 4-11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, in Century Park, 1001 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills.

Six restaurants will be selling their delicious ribs at a nominal cost including Big Ed's BBQ, Real Urban Barbecue, BBQ'd Productions Bar & Grill, Smokin' T's Bar-B-Que, Brothers BBQ and City Barbeque. The Mundelein/Vernon Hills/Lincolnshire Rotary Club will be roasting corn and Bobo's restaurant will offer ice cream and other desserts. There will also be plenty of beverages, including a variety of beer, wine and soda. New this year will be a bourbon bar.

The entertainment at the event will showcase award-winning blues artists. Friday night's performances begin with Corey Dennison band at 7 p.m., with Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers taking the stage at 9 p.m. On Saturday night, Mike Wheeler Band will perform at 5 p.m., followed by Chicago Blues Super Session at 7 p.m. and Mud Morganfield, son of Muddy Waters, at 9 p.m. Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs to relax by the lake and listen to the best blues music while enjoying delicious ribs and cold beverages.

There is a $5 entry fee payable at the gate; admission for children 5 and younger is free. Proceeds from Little Bear Ribfest support the park district's Family Scholarship Fund.
