League of Women Voters to host membership kickoff Sept. 12

The League of Women Voters of Roselle/Bloomingdale will host its annual membership kickoff during a wine tasting and fundraising event from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Lynfred Winery, 15 S. Roselle Road in Roselle.

The evening will include a presentation from Steve Bogaerts, vice chairman of the Citizens' Climate Lobby, Northwest Suburbs Chapter, a nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots advocacy organization focused on national policies to address climate change.

Bogaerts will facilitate a discussion titled, "Engaging the Political Process to Confront Climate Change." He will explain why the Citizens' Climate Lobby was formed and how it confronts climate change through the political process. He also will review a currently debated national carbon fee and dividend proposal which promises to reduce carbon emissions to 50 percent of 1990 levels within 20 years while adding jobs to the economy.

Cost for the event is $20 and includes wine and hors d'oeuvres.

This event is open to the public and attendees do not need to become a League member to participate. For more information about this community event and to RSVP, please contact Patty Burns at (630) 251-5508.
