Track 'Monarch's Great Migration' Aug. 26 with McHenry County Conservation District

It is almost time for the majestic monarch butterflies to begin their mass migrations south.

Join the McHenry County Conservation District in exploring this incredible natural event at "Tagging and Tracking the Monarch's Great Migration" from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road, Crystal Lake.

A brief overview of monarchs, their life-cycle, migration patterns and programs that track their migrations will be presented.

Afterward, the group will hike the trails through the summer prairie in search of monarchs and their larvae.

If available, staff will tag a live monarch butterfly and offer instructions on how to do this at home.

Monarch tag ordering information will also be available.

The program is for adults and families with kids, ages 6 or older.

Preregistration and fee required are by Friday, Aug. 24.

The program is free for county residents and $5 for nonresidents.
