Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois to host grand opening celebration Aug. 11

On Saturday, Aug. 11, Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois will celebrate its new resource center at 353 Randall Road in South Elgin with a family-friendly grand opening for the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The free event will include hands-on STEM activities for kids, fishing games, do-it-yourself coin banks, scavenger hunts, and climbing wall.

The first 50 girls will receive a free Girl Scout fun patch. Donations of nonperishable food items for Northern Illinois Food Bank will be accepted on site. Families also can enter to win the grand prize of a year's subscription of GSNI Girl Gear. No purchase necessary; one entry per household.

In-store specials will include a free bag with any $5 purchase, and a chance to spin the prize wheel with any $15 purchase. Purchases of $30 or higher will include a free pop socket or smart wallet. All purchases are cumulative and offered only while supplies last.

From Aug. 11 to 17, any purchase of the new green and gray leader T-shirt will include a free volunteer bag. Other in-store specials include 30 percent off all regular priced G.I.R.L. merchandise, excluding starter kit bags, and an additional 50 percent off clearance merchandise.

GSNI's South Elgin Resource Center is one of several new and redesigned Girl Scout locations as the organization moves to be more visible in local communities and offer increased convenience for families and volunteers.
