Comedy musical 'Sister Act' comes to The Hemmens

The City of Elgin is partnering with point2productions, a division of Schaumburg on Stage, to present the 2018 Elgin Summer Theater production of "Sister Act" at the Hemmens Cultural Center Aug. 10-12, 17-19.

"Sister Act" is the feel-good musical comedy smash based on the hit 1992 film that has audiences jumping to their feet! Featuring original music by Tony- and eight-time Oscar winner, Alan Menken ("Newsies," "Beauty and the Beast," "Little Shop of Horrors"), this uplifting musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story, "Sister Act" will leave audiences breathless. A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, "Sister Act" is reason to REJOICE!

The Elgin production is directed by Brian Scholz, new to Elgin Summer Theatre and point2productions this year. Brian has been involved in community and youth theater productions for more than 14 years and has directed over 17 productions including "Mary Poppins" and "Cheaper by the Dozen" for WMC Productions in Warrenville, as well as "Into the Woods," "The Sound of Music," "The Wizard of Oz" and "Shrek" for the St. John's Players in Streamwood.
