COD offers new Learning Community classes for fall

The College of DuPage will offer several new classes through its Learning Communities program starting in the fall term 2018.

Learning communities are innovative learning experiences that typically involve students enrolling as a cohort in two or more courses connected by a common theme. Learning communities for the fall 2018 term include the following:

Charting Your Course-Communication and Careers:

Combining the general education requirement Speech 1100 with a career development course, this learning community focuses on career exploration while developing an understanding of the communication process and fundamental workplace communication skills. Decision 2018-Rhetoric and Reality:

This learning community combines the general education requirement English Composition 1101 and Political Science 1101 to explore the processes of American government and the role of rhetoric by focusing on the issues of the 2018 Illinois State, Congressional, and local campaigns and elections. Human Resources Management Certificate:

This Learning Community offers students who have previously completed the MANAG 2240 (HR Management) course to concurrently complete the three advanced HRM courses required for earning the HRM certificate. For more Information, contact Jane Murtaugh at murtaugh@cod.edu, (630) 942-2821.

Integrated Reading and Writing:

Learn about how reading and writing are connected and experience how these two communication skills enhance and extend each other. For more information, contact Mary Anderson at andersnm@cod.edu, (630) 942-2536.

Seed, Soil and the Soul- A Critical Analysis of World Food Practices:

This Honors seminar combines Environmental Biology and Film as Literature to explore food as a key to understanding human cultures and human relationships with the environment. The Write Mind for Success:

Combining Composition I and Introduction to Psychology, this learning community helps students develop an effective mindset for college-level courses and life through interpersonal, analytical and argumentative writing. Video Games as Art, History and Culture:

This learning community pairs English and the humanities to explore the ever-growing world of video games, including their history, design, development and cultural impact.
