Five local departments team up for action-packed Night Out Aug .7

The McHenry County Conservation District, McHenry County Sheriff's Office, the City of McHenry Police Department and the McHenry and Wonder Lake fire protection districts are teaming up to present National Night Out Against Crime from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Petersen Park, 4300 Peterson Park Road, McHenry. The evening's events promote crime prevention and safety programs, while strengthening police-community partnerships and encouraging neighborhood camaraderie. An action-packed evening is planned with food and fun for the whole family.

Stop by for complimentary food and beverages and enjoy the free ongoing activities. Various police and fire equipment will be on display including a water hover craft and flight for life helicopter (pending availability). Booths include: electronic fingerprinting ID system for children, Project S.W.E.E.P., Sheriff's Office Explorer, volunteer and other programs.

Special demonstrations are scheduled throughout the evening: vehicle extrication by the fire protection districts of McHenry and Wonder Lake; precision riding motorcycle demo by the McHenry County Conservation District and McHenry County Sheriff's motor units; and Police K-9 Demo by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

National Night Out is celebrated annually the first Tuesday of August. The goal is to promote crime prevention and safety programs, strengthen police-community partnerships, and encourage neighborhood camaraderie in hopes for a safer McHenry County and America. "America's Night Against Crime" began in 1984 and is celebrated in all 50 states.
