Caputo's Handcrafted Cheeses Win Four Awards At 2018 American Cheese Society Competition

Melrose Park, Illinois-based dairy manufacturer and award-winning cheesemaker Caputo took home four awards at the 2018 American Cheese Society Competition in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this past weekend. Caputo Cheese won first place for their handcrafted Burrata, Ricotta, and Nodini and received a second-place win for their Burratini.

Caputo's handmade cheeses swept away the competition in the Burrata class, clinching both first and second place ribbons. The first place prize was awarded to Caputo's handcrafted Burrata, a hand-formed Mozzarella shell surrounding creamy stracciatella, an exquisite combination of fine shreds of fresh Mozzarella and fresh, cream which the cheesemakers at Caputo craft in-house.

Second place in the Burrata category also went to Caputo, for their Burratini, a smaller version of the signature Burrata. Caputo's domination of the Burrata category demonstrates the family-owned company's ability to craft the world's finest Burrata cheeses.

First prize in a fresh Mozzarella category went to Caputo's signature Nodini Knots. The hand-knotted bundles of soft, fresh cheese are individually crafted with skimmed cow's milk for a delicate texture, and a rich, and creamy flavor.

Caputo's hand-dipped Ricotta earned first place in the highly competitive Ricotta category, impressing the acclaimed panel of judges with its clean and creamy flavor, and light consistency. Handcrafted from whey, Caputo Ricotta is packaged while still warm to maintain the cheese's delicate consistency.

"It is an honor to be recognized as the best across three distinct categories, considering how many talented competitors entered this year's competition," says Natale Caputo, owner of Caputo. "We're grateful for the opportunity to showcase our commitment to crafting high-quality cheeses and receive such prestigious awards from the American Cheese Society."

Caputo's quality dairy products have enjoyed a successful year at esteemed cheese competitions across the country. This past March, Caputo took home three awards at the World Championship Cheese Contest in Madison, WI. Caputo's success at this weekend's American Cheese Society Competition brings the family-owned company's to seven new awards so far this year.

The American Cheese Society Competition began in 1985, and has since grown into the largest competition of its kind. This year's competition received 1,954 entries from 5 countries and 35 U.S. states. The American Cheese Society is the leader in promoting and supporting American cheeses, encouraging the highest standards of cheesemaking focused on safety and sustainability.
