Summer Lunch Program Continues through August 20 at Indian Trails Library

In June and July, the Indian Trails Public Library District served almost 900 lunches to youth, ages 18 and younger, through its Summer Lunch Program. The cold lunch service was possible through generous grants from the USDA, the Great Chicagoland Food Depository, the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove and volunteers from the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club, Wheeling Rotary Club, Our Savior Church and the Indian Trails Library Foundation.

"Although some of the schools in the area host a summer lunch program, it was the library's first year to participate in the free lunch program," said Brian Shepard, executive director. "The library is a perfect location for a lunch program, as we are gathering place for children and their families. The response was overwhelming and we are looking at ways to expand this next year."

The program is offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through August 20, 2018, 12:30-1:30 pm, on a first-come, first-served basis at 355 Schoenbeck Rd., Wheeling. Anyone, ages 18 years and younger, is eligible for a lunch. Registration or residency is not required.

The Indian Trails Public Library serves 67,000 residents in the communities of Wheeling, Buffalo Grove and Prospect Heights.
