COD's theater holding auditions for two shows

General auditions for College of DuPage College Theater's fall productions of "Curse of the Starving Class" and "A Christmas Carol" will be 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, and 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, in the Studio Theater at the McAninch Arts Center, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn.

Auditions for "A Christmas Carol" are for adult actors only. Young actor auditions will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 13 in MAC 188.

If necessary, callbacks will begin at noon Saturday, Aug. 25.

Sam Shepard's "Curse of the Starving Class" will be staged Oct. 4-21. Directed by Michael Ryczek, Shepard's play is a satirical, darkly funny and ultimately thought-provoking classic. The Tate family has reached a juncture, and each member is fighting for control of their rundown farm, looking for freedom, security and meaning in their lives.

"A Christmas Carol" will be staged Nov. 23-25, with multiple performances during the holiday weekend, as well as SchoolStage matinees the following week.

Directed by College Theater Professor Amelia Barrett, this is the 15th time College Theater has presented the classic tale to usher in the holiday. Adapted by William J. Norris, "A Christmas Carol" is the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, who learns that change is always possible.

Auditions will include cold readings with optional monologues. No experience is necessary. For information, call (630) 942-4000. Each production is offered as part of the Theater 1120 class. Cast members are required to register to participate.
