Scholars' Fund Drive at Sedgebrook supports student waitstaff

Submitted by Ivy Marketing Group

Residents at Sedgebrook have shown their appreciation to their student waitstaff who are pursuing their post-high school education, in a very generous way.

Last month, residents of the senior living community in Lincolnshire completed their Scholars' Fund Drive. The annual program collects financial donations to support postsecondary scholarships to students who serve as waitstaff in Sedgebrook's dining venues.

"This year, we collected $72,000 from our residents. We have 19 new applicants for scholarships, which is the largest pool to date. We had 33 existing Sedgebrook Scholars meaning that we'll have a total of 52 students receiving funds," said Ryan Springer, community resources manager at Sedgebrook. "Each scholar can receive up to $1,000 per semester for eight semesters, for a total of $8,000."

A brunch honoring the students as well as the fund's largest donors was held.

"The residents love the opportunity to support the waitstaff who work so hard and are so friendly. Staff is not allowed to receive tips or gifts, so this is a great way for residents to show their appreciation to the students, while helping them pursue their educations."
