Quilt appraisals to be offered Aug. 11 in Union
The McHenry County Historical Society will offer an afternoon of quilt appraisals on Saturday, Aug. 11.
The event, with appraisals done by Crystal Lake quilt appraiser and author Sandy Schweitzer, will be from 1 to 4 p.m. in the research library of the museum, 6422 Main St., Union.
A donation of $30 to the historical society is requested for each 15-minute verbal appraisal. There are 12 slots available on a first-come, first-served basis. Prepayment by check or credit card is required, with all proceeds benefiting the society. Call (815) 923-2267 to reserve your spot.
Schweitzer is a highly regarded quilt artist and teacher, as well as American Quilt Society certified appraiser. Her presentations, which are open to the public, are informative and entertaining. Much like "Antiques Roadshow" viewers will learn about each quilt's history, pattern and construction. Schweitzer has lectured extensively and also offers a variety of workshops. The museum also is initiating Saturday hours that day, as well as from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 and Oct. 13. Free admission for each individual who signs up to have a quilt appraised.
