Wheaton Municipal Band offers something for everyone July 26

The eighth concert of the Wheaton Municipal Band's summer season presents an eclectic mix of music and an exciting program at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 26, in Memorial Park in downtown Wheaton. Dr. Bruce Moss takes to the podium to conduct a concert filled will wonderful beloved music.

An all-time favorite, the "William Tell Overture" by Rossini, stirs the soul as it brings images of the Lone Ranger.

This beloved and often parodied orchestral work was the opening to the last of Rossini's operas, "William Tell."

The band arrangement is every bit as exciting as the orchestral version and an audience favorite.

Also on the program is the band arrangement premier of John Rutter's "Te Deum."

Originally written for chorus, and then orchestra, Rutter is well known for his hymn tunes and choral works.

This setting of the jubilant thanksgiving pray is a wonderful addition to band literature.

The Wheaton audience gets to hear it first.

This is the second premier of a major work for band that the Wheaton Municipal Band is proud to present.

Featured on the evenings performance is flutist Carlyn Lloyd.

A frequent soloist with the Wheaton Municipal Band, Lloyd is a professional flutist in the suburban area and performs in a wide variety of groups including solo flute, woodwind quintets and small chamber ensembles.

At the concert, she performs "La Flute de Pan" by Jules Mouquet.

At this concert, the Wheaton Band helps celebrate Bugs Bunny's 80th birthday with a performance of "Cartoon Express" by Les Taylor.

Also, for the classical minded audience members the band plays "Fantasies on a Theme" by Haydn, arranged by Dello Joio.

Broadway buffs can enjoy "Highlights from Hello Dolly," and, of course, there are always a few marches to please the concert band enthusiasts.
