McHenry County Jewish Congregation to host open house Aug. 26

The McHenry County Jewish Congregation is hosting an open house from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26. RSVPs are required at mcjconline.org/event/new-member-brunch/. Get a taste of the religious school, tour the building, and meet other members, teachers and Rabbi Tom Samuels.

They are now accepting registrations for membership and school enrollment. Opening day for religious school is Sunday, Aug. 26, from 9:30 a.m. until noon, including a picnic. The community picnic starts at 11:30. Hot dogs and veggie/pareve food selections will be served.

MCJC serves as the heart of Jewish life in the greater McHenry County area through education, worship, social action, and building community.

Religious school meets each Wednesday from 4:30 to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon. Call (815) 455-1810 for more information about enrollment.

Membership in MCJC includes tickets for the High Holidays, which this year begin Sunday, Sept. 9 with an Erev Rosh Hashanah service at 7:30 p.m., followed by services at 9 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 10-11 and Tuesday, Oct. 4. A Kol Nidre service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18. The Yom Kippur service begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, followed by a Break-the-fast at 7:15 p.m. Children's services will be offered Sept. 10 and 19 at 10:15 a.m.

McHenry County Jewish Congregation holds Community Shabbat & Potluck Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Fridays. Shabbat services with a Torah discussion are at 9:30 a.m. Saturdays. Services are led by Rabbi Tom Samuels.

MCJC is located on Ridgefield Road in unincorporated Crystal Lake, accessible from Route 14.
