CLC Foundation Golf Classic raises money for scholarships
The College of Lake County Foundation's annual Golf Classic, held recently at the ThunderHawk Golf Club in Beach Park, raised more than $75,000 in net proceeds that will directly support CLC Foundation scholarships and grants for students with financial need.
"The Golf Classic is designed to help CLC fulfill its mission to advance student success through high-quality, accessible learning opportunities," said Kurt Peterson, executive director of the CLC Foundation.
"Scores of donors, many representing the county's top corporate employers, came out and gave sacrificially for an important cause. Every penny raised is going to the students."
The event drew 115 golfers, award reception guests and CLC supporters, including members of the CLC board of trustees: chair Richard A. Anderson, William Griffin, Ed.D. and Julie Shroka. Additionally, CLC President Lori Suddick, Ed.D., and CLC Foundation board chair Rob Hauswirth welcomed the golfers.
Event speakers included Kurt Peterson, CLC Foundation Golf Committee chair, David Galla and Richard A. Anderson.
"All of this is for the students," said Galla. "The reason we all give so much time and effort is to provide opportunities for Lake County's young people who are looking to advance themselves through hard work and dedication. Their commitment is what keeps me going."
The event's major corporate sponsors were Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Midwestern Regional Medical Center; Legat Architects; R.J. Galla Insurance Inc.; Susan T. and J. Kenneth Rosko; and First Bank of Highland Park.
In addition, several members of the foundation's volunteer board participated as volunteers and generous donors to the event.
This year's event featured two unique hole-in-one contests. Golfers had a chance to win a 2018 Biscayne Bay 22-foot pontoon boat from Liberty Marine, or a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro from Flag Chevrolet.
