Women's safety class offered at McHenry County College

Women of all ages can empower themselves with tips on improving their personal safety at a Women's Situational Awareness and Safety class offered by McHenry County College's Continuing Education Department. The class takes place from 6:30 to 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, in Room A117 at the college, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

McHenry County College Police Officer Danielle Stevens will discuss tips to help women minimize becoming a victim of a crime and actions that may save their lives.

Topics will include: social media/internet safety, sexual assault awareness and date rape drugs, vehicle and parking lot safety, ATM and Banking safety, plus safety while walking or jogging. The class is ideal for students heading off to college.

Officer Danielle Stevens has 12 years of law enforcement experience and is trained and certified in Critical Incidents, Crime Prevention and Crisis Intervention for mental health incidents. She is the past recipient of the Cook County Sheriff Award of Merit and the Illinois Crime Prevention Officer of the Year Award in recognition of her excellence in crime prevention and community safety education.
