Arts Commission hosts Decorated Lamp Competition

Show your creativity by participating in the village's Arts Commission's annual "Decorated Object Art Competition" for all ages to be showcased at the annual Arlington Heights Frontier Days Festival Sunday, July 1, at Recreation Park.

Decorate an existing lamp or create an original "lamp" and bring it to Recreation Park between noon and 2 p.m. Sunday, July 1. The competition will be held within the park near Belmont Avenue and Miner Street, Arlington Heights. Winners will be announced at 3 p.m.

The contest is open to all ages and an entry can be designed by an individual or group. There is no limit on the number of entries. Lamps of any size or material will be accepted. Lamps do not have to be working and electricity will not be available.

Selection criteria for the winners will include: artistic impression, originality, quality and aesthetic appeal. First and second prizes will be awarded in four categories: Adult, Youth, Child and Family and Friends. One prize will be awarded for the winner in the People's Choice category.
