Overshadowed stages 'Seven Brides'

"Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" will step into the spotlight next month when Overshadowed Theatrical Productions stages the musical at 900 Foster Ave. in Medinah.

The show will open July 13 with a cast of 33, one of the group's largest productions, and continue through early August.

Set in 1850s Oregon, the play follows the story of the Pontipee brothers - wild, unruly mountain men in search of wives to bring civility by tending to domestic tasks. Little do they realize that Milly, eldest brother Adam's new wife, has more interest in tending to their characters than anything else.

Emily Robles, who plays Milly, says the musical "shows the power of Godly femininity and the way it can transform men into Godly men."

Robles says she's thrilled to perform with Overshadowed. "It's incredible to have an adult Christian theater that wasn't corny and provides quality content," she says.

Michael Dille, who plays Adam, says he enjoys the family-friendly element of performing with Overshadowed.

"I like being able to do musicals with my family," he said. "I love the positive atmosphere, but most of all how it strengthens my relationship with my family as well as builds new relationships."

Tickets are $14 to $20 and available online at overshadowed.org or through the box office by calling (630) 634-2100.

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 13-14, July 19-21, July 26-28 and Aug. 2-4. A 2 p.m. matinee also will be performed July 21, July 28 and Aug. 4.

Overshadowed Theatrical Productions is dedicated to providing family-friendly, quality drama that entertains, inspires and promotes a biblical message.
