City of Elgin, Gail Borden join in 'Bike. Walk. Move' June 17-23

The City of Elgin and Gail Borden Public Library invite residents to join in "Bike. Walk. Move" June 17-23. To learn more, visit www.cityofelgin.org.

On Sunday, June 17, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., take a bike ride with dad on the Fox River Trail to East Dundee and back. You can grab a tasty treat from Van's Frozen Custard or DQ at the turnaround point. Meet in the north parking lot of Gail Borden Library, 270 N. Grove Ave.

On Monday, June 18, join in "Family Zumba" from 2 to 3 p.m at the South Elgin Branch Library, 127 S. McLean Blvd. Get your body moving and your heart pumping through dance with instructor, Elizabeth Satelo.

Also on Monday, join cyclists with Universalist Unitarian Church of Elgin on an exploration ride of Elgin area trails. Meet in the parking lot at the southwest corner of Kimball and Grove, near the Pioneer Memorial Statue. The ride leaves at 5:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, June 19, Walk, bike or move yourself to South Elgin for some "Yoga with Danae" from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the South Elgin Branch Library.

Also on Tuesday, join Parker Thompson from Elgin Bike Hub to explore how to make active transportation a first-order option, so that walking and biking are safe, viable ways to move about the city with equitable access to longer, healthier, happier lives. It will be 6 to 7 p.m at the Rakow Branch Library, 2751 W. Bowes Road in Elgin.

On Wednesday, June 20, Greg Anderson from Spin Doctor Cyclewerks will share his expertise on basic bike maintenance tips from 2 to 3 p.m. at the South Elgin Branch Library. Or stop by the Rakow Branch Library from 2 to 3 p.m. when Robert Noe will offer simple bike maintenance tips for young riders. All ages are welcome. Also on Wednesday, join in watching the film "Road to Roubaix" at 6:30 p.m., upstairs in Club 217. The film documents the chaos, the dirt, the panache and luck it takes just to survive the race. Enjoy food and beverages at the Elgin Public House while watching the film.

On Thursday, June 21, "Yoga for Cyclists" will take bike riders through appropriate postures, warm up and recovery stretches from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Rakow Branch Library.

On Friday, June 22, stop by the Elgin Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee/Elgin Bike Hub booth at the Elgin Farmers Market. You'll enjoy the festive feel of the new location of the market on South Grove Avenue, between DuPage Court and Spring St. The market is open from 3 to 7 p.m.

On Saturday, June 23, it is "Biking to the Library Day." Ride your bike to Rakow Branch or South Elgin Branch and get a sweet treat from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There also will be a bike drive for Working Bikes in Chicago. Give your old bikes new life by redistributing them as tools of empowerment in local and global communities from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Rakow Branch Library.

For an added experience, sign up now for the Fox Valley Bike & Ski Club's Swedish Days Ride on Sunday, June 24, starting at Burlington Central High School.
