Brookfield LaGrange Park School District 95 expanding facilities to support growing enrollment and 21st-century education

Brookfield LaGrange Park School District 95 held groundbreaking ceremonies on May 24, 2018, to kick off construction of new additions to both Brook Park Elementary School and S.E. Gross Middle School.

The ceremonies took place back-to-back beginning at Brook Park Elementary School in La Grange Park, with events following at S.E. Gross Middle School in Brookfield. The school enhancement projects include renovations to the existing facilities, and new additions that will bring much-need space to support the district's growing student body, projected to increase through 2022.

Architect Cashman Stahler Group and general contractor Executive Construction Inc. have been collaborating with the district on these exciting improvements since early 2016.

Currently, both schools have insufficient space to offer a curriculum that meets 21st-century learning standards. In order to support growing enrollment, the administration and Board of Education worked closely with staff, architects, and the community to provide the optimum space to ensure current and future students are prepared for success.

The planned improvements include larger classroom space in both schools with advanced technological tools; larger gymnasiums; and performing arts space for the benefit of all students.

Brook Park Elementary School will undergo demolition of several existing structures to make way for a 49,000-square foot elementary wing that will encompass two-stories. The wing will include six new classrooms for full-day kindergarten, and will consolidate Early Childhood programming into one building.

Ten new first- and second-grade classrooms are planned, with wifi access available throughout and interactive displays in each classroom. The new gymnasium will offer a performing arts space that doubles as a bonus specials room.

The addition to S.E. Gross Middle School will include a 15,300-square-foot gymnasium facility with locker rooms, and will be accessible to the community when school is not in session. A 15,700-square foot renovation of the existing space will bring a new cafeteria; first-floor flexible auditorium / performance space; two new state-of-the art classrooms; a STEM lab; a new art space with kiln room; and an expanded band room with enclosed practice areas for musicians. Wifi access will be available throughout the addition, with interactive displays in all classrooms and lab areas.

Construction at both schools will begin May 25, 2018, and is expected to complete in August 2019.
