Kaneland Arts Initiative celebrates student artists

Congratulations to all of the amazing Kaneland artists whose work was displayed at the Kaneland Community Fine Arts Festival April 8.

On behalf of the Kaneland art faculty in each school, they were thrilled to display talent from kindergarten through 12th grade.

A special mention should go out to this year's Golden Palette Awards winners.

The Golden Palette Award is a special award given by Ken Evans, owner of Franklin's Frames and Art in Sycamore.

Evans travels to Kaneland after all of the art is set up for the festival and selects four pieces of art from each school to receive the Golden Palette Award.

After the festival, the art is taken to his shop where he displays the work in his gallery and invites the artists and their families to an artist reception.

Students are able to see their art displayed and receive a small monetary award.

Congratulations to the following Kaneland art students on receiving the 2018 Golden Palette Award:

• Blackberry Elementary School: Kayla Guerrero, Mackenzie Lima, Katie Luehring and Grace Rusev;

• John Shields Elementary School: Declan Hines, Joseph Kesselring, Sage Spayer and Alexis VanderVoorn;

John Stewart Elementary School: Kailey Kunstman, Tyler Morong, Addison Schedin and Kelly Snyder;

• McDole Elementary School: Griffin Condon, Annika Johnson, Will Tice and Florina Zeciri;

• Harter Middle School: Amanda Barajas, Isabella Humm, Libby Saloga and Rileigh Williams
