Endowed scholarship honoring Lidia Krzemien to be announced at Judson concert April 22

The Judson Civic Orchestra Concert on Sunday, April 22, will not only feature inspiring music; it will mark the establishment of an important new endowed scholarship in piano performance.

The scholarship will be named in memory of the late Judson alumna, Lidia Krzemien. Krzemien, who was from Poland and graduated from Judson in 2002, studied music under the tutelage of Music Department Chair Dr. Robert Kania, also from Poland.

Through the fundraising efforts of Krzemien's family, friends and Judson University, an endowed scholarship is now being dedicated in honor of her excellence in performance and love of music. Judson Associate Vice President of Development Kristen Egan, members of the Krzemien family, and Dr. Kania will dedicate the new scholarship at this concert.

The concert will be at 2 p.m. in the university's Herrick Chapel, 1151 N. State St. (Route 31) in Elgin.

The orchestra will perform the Rachmaninoff Piano Concert No. 2, with Dr. Kania at the piano and community member Jim Franklin conducting, as well as the powerful Beethoven Symphony No. 5, conducted by Dr. Kania.

In addition, in keeping with Judson's focus on the Psalms this year, the strings will perform the Hovhaness "Psalm" from Psalm and Fugue No. 40a.
