Volunteer to be an observer for domestic violence court

The Fox Valley Court Watch, a nonprofit organization, will provide a training session Saturday April 21, for interested volunteers.

The program currently monitors the bench and jury trial judicial process in domestic violence courts in Kane and Kendall county judicial centers. Court Watcher Observers are volunteers from the community, trained in domestic violence dynamics and court procedure which monitor, evaluate and advocate improving services for victims of domestic abuse. Through Court Watch, volunteers document observations of all trial activities in misdemeanor and felony domestic violence cases, with an eye toward identifying strengths and weaknesses in the local judicial systems. Volunteers must be 18 years of age and have an email address and daily email access.

Training will be held in Waubonsee Community College's Academic and Professional Center in Sugar Grove, beginning at 8 a.m. with a continental breakfast and registration. The training will end at 4 p.m. There is no charge and the training is concluded by 4 p.m. Lunch is included in this event.

To register for training, visit fvcw.org/Volunteer.html for information and complete the application form. Or click on "Contact Us" to indicate you will attend training on April 21, and bring the application form to the training class.
