Aurora students make donation to Bernie's Book Bank

The Goddard School, a private preschool and day care that nurtures children, helping prepare them for school, career and life, recently collected and delivered 26,500 books to Bernie's Book Bank, a nonprofit donation recipient.

Bernie's is one of the largest literacy programs in Chicago.

The number topped the school's goal for collecting 25,000 books during the drive.

Goddard now has collected more than 155,000 books over the past five years.

Bernie's Book Bank in Lake Bluff empowers at-risk children to read their way to a better life. Two out of three low-income children have no books of their own and Bernie's Book Bank is changing that by providing 12 books a year for 12 years.

Since 2009, Bernie's Book Bank has sourced, processed and distributed 11 million quality books. Bernie's Book Bank provides new and gently used children's books to significantly increase book ownership among at-risk infants, toddlers, and school-age children throughout the Chicago area.

The 20 Chicago-based locations of The Goddard School are across Kane, DuPage, McHenry, Cook, Lake and Will counties.
