March 15: Learn about engineering transfer programs at CLC

The College of Lake County will hold an information session Thursday, March 15 for prospective students interested in taking the first two years of a Bachelor of Science in engineering degree at CLC.

The session will take place at 7 p.m. in Room A013 on CLC's Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St. Parents are also invited to attend.

The 30-minute session will include information about the CLC engineering transfer curriculum and the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC) College of Engineering Pathways program (which offers guaranteed admission after successfully completing two years at CLC). The sessions also will cover CLC's guaranteed transfer admission programs with the University of Illinois-Chicago and Northern Illinois University. Other topics include the National Science Foundation Scholarship program, CLC's Engineering Club, academic support services and more.

The first two years of any engineering curriculum is common, allowing "pre-engineering" majors to start at CLC and transfer to any engineering field and enjoy considerable savings, said Professor Rob Twardock, engineering transfer department chair.

"With the average four-year public university tuition at $15,000-20,000 per year, plus room and board of $10,000-12,000, engineering students can save about $25,000 per year by starting at CLC. We offer small classes taught by professors who are professional engineers," he said. "Additionally, the Engineering department's Baxter Innovation Lab offers students a hands-on environment for creating prototypes, programming and working on design projects."

The deadline to apply to the UIUC Engineering Pathways program for Fall Semester 2018 is March 15. Find out more at www.clcillinois.edu/programs/egr/options/engineering-pathways.

The deadline for preferred consideration for the National Science Foundation Scholars program is April 15. The application is at www.clcillinois.edu/paying-for-college/financial-aid/types-of-financial-aid/clc-foundation-scholarships.
