Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley awards grant to Renz Center

The Renz Addiction Counseling Center was recently awarded $5,500 from the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley in support of capital purchases for the center's St. Charles treatment location.

The capital acquisitions include three Alpha-Stim devices, furniture for individual treatment and support groups, and a crosscut shredder.

New to the Fox Valley area is Renz Center's Positive Waves Group using Alpha-Stim devices. Alpha-Stim is a drug-free treatment tool that helps individuals achieve substance use disorder recovery while reducing anxiety, depression, insomnia, and pain. When combined with traditional therapy, the Positive Waves Group further supports long-term recovery.

"The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley is a valued community partner," said Renz Center's Executive Director Jerry Skogmo, "and we appreciate the support they place on addiction treatment and prevention education in the Fox River Valley. All three capital purchases directly benefit individuals in treatment. The crosscut shredder adds an extra layer of security to eliminating confidential documents; soft, comfortable furniture offers more relaxed counseling sessions; and the Alpha-Stim devices will help ease anxiety, depression, insomnia, and help with pain management often associated with addiction.

Renz Center provides a continuum of care dedicated to the prevention, intervention and treatment of addictive behaviors related to alcohol, drugs, and gambling. Services range from prevention programs for youth in the schools to outpatient treatment programs for adolescents and adults. Priority is given to pregnant women and women with dependent children. Offices are located in St. Charles, Elgin and Streamwood.

Renz Addiction Counseling Center is licensed by the state of Illinois for its adult and adolescent outpatient treatment programs. Renz Center is a nonprofit organization funded in part by the federal government, Fox Valley United Way, the Illinois Department of Human Services, Hanover Township, Geneva, and St. Charles 708 Mental Health Boards and other local community organizations.
