Wheaton League plans candidate events

The League of Women Voters of Wheaton is presenting two events this winter to help prepare for the 2018 election.

The first is a Candidate Meet-and-Greet event from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at the DuPage County Complex Auditorium, 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton.

The event will be set up in a "candidate job fair" style. Each candidate will have a table, and guests can approach at their own pace or interest.

Organizers hope the session offers the chance to speak to candidates one-on-one, ask specific questions or share thoughts, and get involved in a candidate's campaign if desired.

Invited candidates include those for regional school superintendent; county chairman, sheriff, clerk, treasurer and board members for districts 4 and 6; forest preserve president and board member for District 6; state representatives in districts 41, 42, 46, 48 and 49; state Senate in districts 21, 23 and 24; Congress in District 6; and governor.

No registration is required, and the event is free. Guests should park in the garage and use the pedestrian bridge on the top deck to enter the building and access the auditorium.

The second program is one of the League's "Drinks and Discussion" events. At 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, league members, guests and the public are invited to Cantigny Park's McCormick House for an evening of socializing and discussion on what to know about the issues facing Illinois before you cast your ballot. A cash bar will be available. No registration is required and parking and the program are free.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government. It influences public policy through education and advocacy. It never supports or opposes any political party or candidate.

The League of Women Voters of Wheaton serves residents of Wheaton, Winfield, West Chicago, Warrenville and Carol Stream.
