Register for programs at Streamwood Park District

The Streamwood Park District is gearing up for registration for 2018 spring programs and special events beginning March 3. Spring program activity booklets will be available Feb. 18 for pickup at Park Place Family Recreation Center, Community Center and numerous locations around the village or online at www.spdcares.com.

Highlights of some of the activities are: Streamwood's Got Talent Competition selects the top 12 to move on Feb. 7; enjoy the sights and laughter at the Easter Egg Dive, with kids hunting for eggs in the swimming pool. Other Easter events are Brunch with the Bunny and the Easter egg hunt, which is co-sponsored by the Poplar Creek Library and the Streamwood Woman's Club.

Sports events continue to thrive, with youth soccer leading the way. Summer SLAM All-Star Softball tournament always draws a big following. This event includes teams from all over the Chicago area, with last year's count of more than 12 suburban towns represented.

The event runs four days and most games are played at Hoosier Grove Park and Rahlf's Park in Streamwood. Girls ages 9-14 compete and the championship games are played on Sunday.

Another event is the Streamwood STRIDE 10K/5K/walk. This year, Streamwood's own Channel 7 Chicago news reporter John Garcia will be running. This is the 20th year for the race.

New this year is the return of dodgeball to the Community Center Monday nights for adults and children ages 10-15 years old.

Park Pride Day, held on May 19, is an opportunity to help make our parks colorful and vibrant for the spring. The community is invited to help the park district prepare the 47 parks for the spring season. Volunteers can plant flowers, pull weeds, enhance their education about plants and meet friends and neighbors.

Social groups, nonprofits and service clubs can select a park as a service project. Streamwood Park District provides a complimentary lunch as a thank you to the volunteers for all the hard work.
