Local DAR to offer genealogical workshop Feb. 4

The Fox River Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughter of the American Revolution will offer a free genealogical workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at the Huntley Area Public Library, 11000 Ruth Road, Huntley.

They will assist prospective members to find and prove their lineage to a Revolutionary War patriot and assist with new member applications.

DAR members also will be assisting anyone who would like to apply for a Prairie Pioneer Certificate in commemoration of the State of Illinois 200th birthday.

The Illinois State Genealogical Society offers certificates for those who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who lived in Illinois prior to statehood in 1818 up through Dec. 31, 1880.
